Abstract
PURPOSE:To safety and economically improve the yield of the titled compound with a small-sized apparatus, in the production of the titled compound from propylene and hydrogen peroxide, by carrying out the reaction in the presence of a specific catalyst and a solvent and simultaneously extracting the water, solvent and the produced objective compound from the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is produced by reacting propylene with hydrogen peroxide in a solvent forming a heterogeneous azeotropic mixture with water and inert to hydrogen peroxide and propylene oxide (e.g. 1,2- dichloroethane or cyclohexane) in the presence of an organic monocarboxylic acid (e.g. acetic acid) and in the presence of phosphoric acid and 2,6-pyridine- dicarboxylic acid while extracting the water introduced into the system and water produced by the reaction together with the solvent and the produced objective compound from the reaction system. The amounts of the organic monocarboxylic acid and propylene are 2-10mol. and 1.5-10mol. per 1mol. of hydrogen peroxide, respectively.
