Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify welding method and increase accommodative response of the welding machine to plate working size in making cans by clamping a steel plate with cooling members from above and below and irradiating a laser beam to the fillet part. CONSTITUTION:Cooling members 4A, 4B made of material of high thermal conductivity such as copper etc. are provided in close contact and parallel to upper and lower butt faces of chrome plated steel plates 2A, 2B. The end face of lower cooling member 4B is positioned in front of the end face of upper cooling member 4A by more than 5mm. to augment cooling of lower steel material 2B. Opposed faces at the rear end of superposed part of the upper steel plate 2A and lower steel plate 2B is chamfered as shown in figure. After forming the cooling members 4A, 4B like this, and clamping the steel plates 2A, 2B, a laser beam is irradiated. By this way, the butted part penetrates sufficiently to form a deposited part 12.
