Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the yield of ingots and prevent the generation of ingot bending after cutting by correcting the bulging of the ingot produced during grooving with flat passes and cutting the same finally with disc rolls.
CONSTITUTION: Molten steel is teemed into a mold, and a solidified shell is formed on the outside circumference of a mold by primary cooling. An ingot is formed by secondary cooling, and the ingot of double width is gas cut to prescribed length at a right angle to the drawing direction. Further, grooves of decreased thickness are formed with rolling and working machines 20, then the parts near the grooves bulge on the top and bottom surfaces with respect to the groove width of the ingot. Thence, the ingot 14B produced with the bulging and the like near the groove parts is screwed down and leveled with leveling and rolling machines 22, and is shorn with disc rolls of a rolling shear 40. Discs 44 enter the grooves of decreased thickness by the disc part of the machines 20, thereby cutting the ingot.
