Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture the beam blank with very stable quality, by periodically pressing the cast billet, which has finished the secondary cooling and is before the cutting machine, from two sides by the pressing head possessing the cavity of specified shape fittable to the billet's side plane, so as to tune with the movement of the cast billet. CONSTITUTION:At a position 4 in front of the cutting machine 3 included in the continuous casting line, the cast billet 8, which has finished the cooling, is fed into the housing 5 holding the pressing head 9. This pressing heads 9, 9, press the cast billet 8 from its two sides so as to perform the reduction in the breadth direction. In this case, the head 9 is provided with the cavity 11 fittable to the side plane of the cast billet 8, and the breadth t2 of the bottom plane 12 of this cavity 11 is specified so as to satisfy the formula t2/t1=1.1-1.6 (in which, t1 is the billet's thickness), and besides, the cavity 11 is shaped so as to widen the breadth upward and downward toward the open side. As a result, the beam blank with very stable quality can be manufactured without using the special casting mold and without slowing down the speed of the continuous casting line.
