Abstract

1465657 Die casting machines G G PEKROL 23 Aug 1974 [5 Sept 1973] 37069/74 Heading B3F In a die casting machine having relatively movable dies 52 and 54, the path followed by the molten metal between an opening 67 in the outer surface of one of the dies and the die cavity has a tunnel portion 66 and a portion 68 extending along the parting line between the dies. The die 54 is provided with heating elements 70 to keep the metal in the tunnel 66 molten and the die 52 is provided with coolant passages 72 to solidify the metal in the portion 68. On raising the die 52, an undercut portion 88 thereof engages the end of the runner 102 and causes it to bend upwardly thus allowing the molten metal in the tunnel 66 to run back down into the melting pot 74. Ejector pins 82, 84 and 86 then operate to push out the cast article 100 and the runner 102.
