Abstract
1417922 Die casting apparatus COATS & CLARK Inc 24 July 1973 [25 July 1972] 35300/73 Heading B3F A die casting apparatus comprises a first die plate 20 having a cavity 22 therein, a second die plate 16 having an opening 26 therethrough, and a third die plate 18 having a recess 32 therein, the die plate 16 being fixed in position and the die plates 20 and 18 being movable relative to the plate 16. Molten metal is introduced into the mould cavity 22 via a nozzle 40, runner 41, recess 32 and the opening 26, the metal in the cavity 22 forming the cast article and the metal in the opening 26 and the recess 32 forming the gate. Movement of the plate 18 away from the plate 16 causes the gate to break away from the cast article and to be withdrawn from the opening 26 since the gate part formed in the recess 32 is held therein by a curved portion 38 of the surface defining the recess. Further movement of the plate 18 causes an ejector pin 33 to strike a fixed part of the apparatus and thus push the gate part out of the recess 32, the gate part undergoing a pivoting movement about the portion 38 as it is ejected. Movement of the plate 20 away from the plate 16 results in ejection of the cast article from the cavity 22.
