Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the heat dissipation of slabs and save the thermal energy of reheating by coating a heat insulating material on the ingots between from right under a casting mold up to stacking and stripping the heat insulating material just prior to charging into a heating furnace. CONSTITUTION:Slabs are sprayed with a heat insulating material consisting basically of inorg. fibers at the time when they are transferred from the end of a continuous casting machine to a trailer or a waggon 5. More specifically, the base materials cut with a fiber cutter 11 are forcibly fed through a fiber ejection port 12 and are mixed with the binder fed forcibly through the water+binder nozzle ports 13 provided on the circumference of the port 12. The heat insulating material is stripped with a stripper 7 just before the slabs are charged into a heating furnace 7. The heat insulating material consists essentially of 100pts.wt. 1 or >=2 kinds of inorg. fibers such as asbestos, rock wool, glass fibers and slag wool, as well as 1 or >=2 kinds of alkali metal salts and alkaline earth metal salts of boric acids, phosphoric acids, and silicic acids.
