Abstract
PURPOSE: To insulate the heat of steel materials efficiently by coating a heat insulating material prepd. by adding a binder to refractory inorg. fibers and inorg. particles and mixing these to the slurry form by water on the surfaces of high temp. steel materials.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of subjecting high temp. steel ingots of 300W1,400°C such as continuously cast steel ingots, blooms after blooming and the like further to secondary working such as hot rolling in the next process, it is necessary to raise the temp. of the ingots up to their hot working temp., and therefore the heat insulating material of the following composition is coated on the above-mentioned high temp. ingots, thereby suppressing their cooling and reducing the burden of heating furnaces. As the heat insulating material, 100 parts inorg. fibers such as asbestos, rock wool, glass fibers or slag wool and further 0.1W100 parts inorg. particles of ≤200μ having m. temp. higher than the surface temp. of steel materials, such as alumina, silica powder, kaolin and the like are added, and 3W50 parts alkali metal salts or alkaline earth metal salts of boric acid, phosphoric acid, and silicic acid are added as a binder, and these are mixed into the slurry form by water. The slurry is coated on the surfaces of the steel materials, after which it is dried, whereby the heat insulating layer is formed.
