PURPOSE:To realize an immediate alternate track access and to shorten the processing time of a data, by storing both the defective track information and the alternate track information in a single correspondence and carrying out an access based on the contents of the storage. CONSTITUTION:The value of a cylinder is stored in a cylinder address register A, and at the same time the value of a head is stored in a head address register C respectively to select a desired track. Thus the outputs of the registers A and C are supplied to the 1st and 2nd read-only storage devices A' and C' respectively. If the contents of the registers A and C give an access to the defective tracks, the addresses A and C of the cylinder and head at the parts A' and C' which are set previously corresponding to each other are delivered by the outputs of the registers A and C to be supplied to a positioning control circuit B and a decoder D of a head selecting circuit respectively. Then the seaking action is carried out for the alternate track.
