Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the access time of a substitutive sector and to improve data recording efficiency by recording defective sector information in a disk area, and at the time of recording data in the disk, using the succeeding sector as the substitutive sector when a defective sector is generated. CONSTITUTION:The generating position of a defective sector is previously inspected and a logical address/physical address conversion map is formed from the information of the defective sector and recorded in an area formed on the inner or outer periphery of the disk 1. In case of writing data in the disk 1, the recorded conversion table is read out, and when a sector (k) in which data are to be written is a defective sector is decided, data writing control is transferred to the next sector k+1. Since the substitutive sector k+1 is arranged next to the defective sector (k) on the same track in said control, the time required for accessing the substitutive sector k+1 is shortened. Since the substitutive sector can be set up to a minimum value required, the data recording efficiency can be improved.
