Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the crack resistance of a wear resistant layer and the oxidation resistance of a heating resistor and to prolong the lifetime of a thermal head by forming a nitride layer formed of AlN or/and Si3N4 between the resistor and the wear resistant layer. CONSTITUTION:In a thin film type thermal head in which a heating resistor 2 of Ta2N or the like is formed on an insulator substrate 1 formed of glazed alumina or the like and a pair of electrodes 3, 4 formed of Au/Cr thin film or the like are provided at both ends, a wear resistant layer 5 formed of SiC or the like is formed via a nitride layer 7 formed of AlN or/and Si3N4 on the heater 2. Since the layer 7 is formed between the resistor 2 and the layer 5, the crack resistance of the layer 5 and the oxidation resistance of the resistor 2 can be simultaneously improved, and the lifetime of the thermal head can be remarkably prolonged.
