Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and to make long the life, by evaporation- depositing the adhesive layer and the wear resistant material layer on the part excluding the magnetic gap of te magnetic recording medium sliding surface. CONSTITUTION:On the part excluding the magnetic gap of the magnetic recording medium sliding surface 4, the adhesive layer 5, 6 made of metal oxide such as alumina and titania are evaporation-deposited with the sputtering vapor depositing method or the like, and the wear resistant material layers 7, 8 made of silicon carbide are evaporation-deposited on it so that the tickness is gradually increased toward both sides. Thus, the extent of wear due to the sliding contact of the magnetic recording medium is decreased to improve the wear resistance. Further, sufficient magnetic characteristic can be obtained without polishing procesing of the magnetic gap.
