Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the bulk density of substance to be charged in a coke oven by a method in which the grain size distribution of a substance (coal) to be charged in coke oven is regulated within a given range by adjusting the mechanical strength of raw material coal and molded coal and by naturally pulverizing them during the feed process.
CONSTITUTION: A binder is added to a pulverized coal for molding and then molded by compression into a given grain size. Then, the molded coal obtained is mixed with a raw material coal in a proper proportion and then charged into a coke oven. In this case, the mechanical strengrh of the molded coal is adjusted by altering the amount of the binder (e.g., coal or petroleum bitumen) to be added, whereby the grain size distribution of the substance to be charged in coke oven is controlled by naturally pulverizing the molded coal during the feed process to the carbonization chamber of coke oven so that the fraction of 2/3 or more of the original grain size of molded coal is 75wt% or more, the fraction 2/9 or less of the grain size of the molded coal is 20W90wt%, and the remaining fraction is of 2/9W2/3 of the grain size of the molded coal. Thus, the bulk density of substance to be charged in coke oven can be raised.
