Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent pock marks from being produced on front beads and bead finishing from degrading by spraying a flux more thickly on the rear part than the front part of an electrode torch at the time of joining inclined joints of more than the specific angle by submerged arc welding.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of joining inclined steel plates 1 of ≥6°θ, a holding jig 6 for flux spraying pipes is mounted to a welding torch 2 and the fixing jigs 4, 5 of flux spraying pipes 7, 8 are installed freely movably to the fixing rod 3 mounted thereto. At the welding, the distances (l1), (l2) between the flux spraying pipes 7, 8 and the welding torch 2 are adjusted so that the distances (h1), (h2) between the leading ends of the flux spraying pipes 7, 8 and the steel pipe 1 become (h2)> (h1). The distance of the rear side (h2) is made larger than the front side (h1) in the welding direction A; the gas evolved at the welding escapes in the section (l1) where the thickness of the flux 9 is thin, and the flow of the molten metal of the beads is prevented in the flux (l2) section of a larger thickness that follows the same, thus the production of pock marks on the front beads is prevented.
