Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect a defect on the surface of a disc by forming a light beam from a coherent light source such as laser, etc. irradiating it on the surface of a disc after converging it to a constant spot diameter size and detecting a dispersed light caused by a defect. CONSTITUTION:A light 2 irradiated from a light source 1 is reflected through a total reflective mirror 6 after passing through an intermediate lens 3. Then it is conducted toward a voice coil 6 incorporating object lens N, A and then is fluxed to a spot diameter of approximately 10 microns on a disc 7. The disc 7 is placed on a turntable 8. Photoelectric conversion elements 10A, 10B detect a dispersed light caused by a defect on the surface of a disc. Under the constitution, it is possible to optically detect a defect existent on the surface of an information disc.
