Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electric power-generating element which is small in size, high in output and easy to fabricate, by providing on a porous substrate a plurality of oxygen concentration cells, each consisting of a thin conductive film for oxygen ions and thin film electrodes, and connecting these cells in series. CONSTITUTION:On a porous substrate 4 made of porous ceramics, porous glass or the like and capable of permitting oxygen gas to penetrate therethrough, thin film electrodes 5-7 of platinum, silver, nickel, copper or the like are formed by vaccum deposition. Conductive thin films 8 for oxygen ions are also formed thereon by vacuum deposition or sputtering. Each of these thin films 8 is formed of zirconium oxide or a solid solution of zirconium oxide and calcium oxide, yttrium oxide, samarium oxide or the like. A plurality of single cells, each comprising thin film electrodes 5, 7 and a conductive thin film 8 for oxygen ions, are connected in series.
