Abstract

PURPOSE: To conduct and cut off the transmission of the rotation of an internal- combustion engine to rotary apparatuses in accordance with the operating condition of the engine by operating the negative-pressure clutch while utilizing a negative pressure being present in a suction system of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: When the opening of a throttle valve 3 is small, a high negative pressure is applied to a negative-pressure taking-out port 4 and a diaphragm 12 moves against the force of a spring 15 to pull a shaft 16 upward, so that a rotary body 17 moves attendingly and contacts with both rotary bodies 10, 11 with sufficient frictional forces, whereby the rotation of the engine 1 is transmitted to an air pump 5 through a shaft 54 and the pump 5 is driven. Simultaneously, a valve 18 fixed to the shaft 16 opens an air passage 8, whereby secondary air is supplied. On the other hand, during intermediate/high-load operation of the engine 1, the port 4 is on the upstream side of the valve 3 and is applied with the atmospheric pressure, so that the diaphragm 12 is pushed by the spring 15, the rotary body 17 is separated from the rotary bodies 10, 11 and the pump 5 is not driven. In that case, the valve body 18 closed the air passage 8 to prevent the back flow of exhaust gas.
