Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a fluoran compound having excellent characteristics as a pressure-sensitive and heat-sensitive dye, easily and economically, by halogenating a fluoran compound having a specific structural formula in an inorganic acid or an organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: The objective fluoran compound can be prepared by halogenating a fluoran compound of formula [R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl, phenyl, α-naphthylmethyl (the phenyl and the naphthalene nuclei may be substituted with a lower alkyl, halogen, etc.); or R1 and R2 may together form an N-hetero ring residue; R3WR5 are H, lower alkyl, or halogen; R6 is H, lower alkyl, benzyl, etc.; A is benzene ring or naphthalene ring], e.g. 3-diethylamino-6-anilinofluoran, in an inorganic acid (e.g. conc. sulfuric acid) or in an organic solvent (e.g. chloroform).
