Abstract

PURPOSE: The intermolecular rearrangement between 4-benzoyl-5-benzoyloxypyrazole and 5-hydroxypyrazole is effected in an inert solvent in the presence of aluminum chloride to produce readily the titled compound.
CONSTITUTION: 4-Benzoyl-5-benzoyloxypyrazole of formula I (R is alkyl; X is halogen, nitro; Y is halogen, nitro, methylsulfonyl) and 5-hydroxypyrazole of formula II are made to react in an inert solvent in the presence of aluminum chloride to form the objective compound of formula III. Furhter, a part of the whole of the compound of formula III is made to react with a benzoic acid of formula IV or its reactive derivative to give the compound of formula I, the starting compound, which is recycled to the reaction for the formation of the objective compound of formula III.
EFFECT: The reaction time can be shortened and the yield is improved.
USE: Herbicide or its intermediate.
