NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I or II (R is 3W10C straight chain alkyl; X is halogen).
USE: Electrochromic material for display device, having excellent memory characteristics, and color-developing and quenching characteristics.
PROCESS: An objective compound II (wherein R is C7H15 and X is Br) is prepared by (1) dissolving γ, γ'-dipyidyl is ethyl acetate, (2) adding heptyl bromide to the solution and leaving the mixture to stand to obtain an yellow precipitate, (3) dissolving the precipitate and dibromo-m-xylene in DMF, and (4) reacting by heating.
