Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate maintenance and enhance heat-conveying performance by a method wherein heat-exchanging heat pipes are incorporated in a chemical heat- accumulating system which consists of a heat-accumulating vessel filled with a metal hydride as a heat-accumulating material and a storing vessel, and the solar heat is subjected to heat exchange.
CONSTITUTION: The collected solar heat operates a load 17, then passes through a compartment in a heat-exchaing chamber 9 and is fed through a heat pipe 7 into the heat-accumulating vessel 1, where it decomposes the heat-accumulating material 3 to generate hydrogen. The thus generated hydrogen passes through a hydrogen- conveying pipe 6 into the storing vessel 2, where it reacts with a metal to form the metal hydride, thereby accumulating heat. When the solar heat is insufficient for the load 17, the solar heat is fed to a compartment in a heat-exchanging chamber 10 through a conveying pipe for circulated heat-transmitting medium 15, the metal hydride in the vessel 2 is decomposed by heating through a heat pipe 8, the resulting hydrogen is reacted in the vessel 1 to generate heat and the generated heat is used for the load. Accordingly, maintenance is facilitated by exchanging heat without using water.
