Abstract

PURPOSE: The microorganisms are removed from the broth containing fatty acids produced by a fermentation process and a protease is made to act on the product to decompose proteins, thereby separating and collecting fatty acids with very little content of proteins.
CONSTITUTION: The microorganism cells are removed from the broth containing a 10 or more carbon atom fatty acid such as tridecanedioic acid resulting from cultivation using straight chain hydrocarbons as a substrate and a protease is made to act on the remaining solution. As a protease, is used bioprase and the amount is 0.01W1.0g per liter of the microorganisms-removed broth. The resultant liquid containing fatty acid is adjusted to acidic zone in pH and heated to grow the crystals of the fatty acid. The fatty acid is filtered and dried to give a fatty acid with very little content of protein.
