Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible high-density displaying and enable the free setting of desired patterns by providing transparent conductive patterns on the surface opposite from the surface of glass substrates provided with transparent electrode patterns and connecting the ends of both patterns at the end faces of the substrates.

CONSTITUTION: Transparent electrode patterns 2 are provided on the liquid crystal layer 3 side of upper and lower glass substrates 1, and further, a transparent electrode pattern 6 is provided on the surface on the polarizing plate 5 side of the upper substrate 1. The ends of the upper patterns 2, 6 are electrically connected 7 at the end face of the upper substrate 1. A transparent electrode pattern may be provided similarly on the outer side of the lower substrate 1 as well. In this way, the leading of the transparent display electrode patterns is done so as to be crossed freely and this provides effects such as increased degrees of freedom in restriction to the relations between electrode connection and display patterns, feasibility of high-density displaying and feasibility of common use of an LSI for driving with many kinds of display elements.
