Abstract

PURPOSE: To greatly decrease the number of terminals and to embody a high- performance active matrix liquid crystal display device by forming peripheral driving circuits on the same substrate as the substrate of the active elements of respective pixels.
CONSTITUTION: The device layer of the element substrate provided with the active elements 5 is connected to a holding substrate 1. The scanning side driving circuits 22 and the data side driving circuits 23 among the active elements 5 and liquid crystal driving circuits are formed on the device layer of the same substrate. The active elements 5 are formed of polycrystalline silicon or amorphous silicon. The liquid crystal driving circuits are formed of the polycrystalline silicon. The active elements 5 are disposed in the position determined by data signal electrodes 21 and scanning signal electrodes 20. The peripheral driving circuits are formed on the same substrate in such a manner and, therefore, the number of the terminals is greatly decreased and the performance of the display is enhanced.
