Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible normal image displaying and enable the number and areas of picture elements to be sufficiently taken by disposing signal electrodes on the surface opposite from the surface disposed with upper picture element electrodes on substrates and achieving their conduction to picture element signals through the fine holes provided to the substrates.
CONSTITUTION: Liquid crystal 23 is sandwiched between a lower substrate 21 provided with scanning electrodes and lower picture element electrodes 24 and an upper substrate 22 provided with upper picture element electrodes 26. Signal electrodes 25 are provided on the surface of the substrate 22 opposite from the electrodes 26 and the conduction of the electrodes 25, 26 is accomplished through the electrode conduction holes 27 opened in the substrate 22. The overlapped shaded portions of the electrodes 24, 26 become picture elements 28.
