Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the operating procedure by connecting auxiliary field windings of DC motors which are connected in series to the intermediate connecting point of the DC motors and to the neutral potential point of an electric circuit, and automatically balancing the armature voltages at the times of driving and braking.
CONSTITUTION: The AC which is generated by an AC generator 2 to which a diesel engine 1 is connected is converted to the DC by a rectifier 3. In order to start the DC motors 40 and 50 which are connected in series, switches 8 and 9 are closed. In order to apply a brake, the switches 8 and 9 are opened, and switches 10, 11, and 12 are closed. The auxiliary field windings 42 and 52 of the motors are connected with the polarity as shown in the Figure. One terminal of the windings are connected to the intermediate point of the motors, and the other terminal is connected to the neutral potential point of the generator 2 or the intermediate connecting point of control resistors 6 and 7. If the rotating speeds of both motors differ at the time of driving or braking, a potential difference is generated across the auxiliary windings 42 and 52 so that the counter-electromotove forces caused by both armatures 40 and 50 are balanced.
