Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide sufficient brake power of an AC electric motor vehicle without weakening field current even in high speed area by switching the series field winding of a DC motor to a separate excitation at regenerative time and regenerating the armature voltage through a thyristor bridge circuit at both ends of the secondary winding of a transformer.
CONSTITUTION: When this AC electric motor vehicle is shifted from drive travel to regenerative brake, it closes contactors B1, B2 and opens contactors P1, P2. Thus, a motor circuit is divided into an armature circuit including a smoothing reactor MSL, an armature A, a brake resistor BRe1, and a rectifier, and a field circuit including a field winding F, a brake resistor BRe2, and a field control rectifier. The motor is controlled as a separately excited motor. If only the thyristors T1 to T4 of the main rectifier are controlled, the output voltage of the rectifier is derived of the voltage between the secondary windings a and c of a main transformer MTR, which voltage is approx. twice of that at travelling time to thereby provide large brake power.
