Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the resistance to liquid leakage of a thin battery by adding a bulking to agent either a synthetic rubber or a synthetic resin having tackiness, forming this mixture into a sheet, and followed by covering the surface of the sheet with either a nonwoven cloth or a woven cloth to obtain an insulating gasket, which is used for the battery. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 2 made of silver oxide or the like, a separator 3 and an impregnant 4 are placed in a cylindrical metal case 1 having a bottom. An amalgmated-zinc powder 5 as a negative active material is packed into a metal sealing plate 6. Next, a sheetlike insulating gasket 7 is interposed between the case 1 and the sealing plate 6 to close the case 1, and the whole constitutes a thin silver- oxide battery. The insulating gasket 7 of such a battery is prepared by adding an inorganic insulating bulking agent such as asbestos, mica, talc or calcium carbonate to either a synthetic rubber or a synthetic resin having tackiness, such as a polyamide resin, to make a mixture, before the mixture is formed into a sheet and the surface of the sheet is covered with either a woven cloth or a nonwoven cloth.
