Abstract

PURPOSE:To lengthen the preservation time of a dry cell by treating a carbon rod with a sealing material which is used for sealing the opening of a zinc can to make the carbon rod be water repellent, and thereby increasing the contact between the carbon and the sealing-material layer. CONSTITUTION:A separator 2 made of paste layer is laid on the inner wall of a zinc can 1, and a given amount of a positive mixture 3 is packed into the space of the can 1. An upper-lid paper 4 is placed on the positive mixture 3, and they are pressed. A sealing material which consists of given proportions of white veseline, a wax and a viscous oil is molten, and a carbon rod 5 is immersed in this sealing material to become water repellent. Following that, the carbon rod 5 is pressed and fitted into the positive mixture 3, before the same sealing material is poured on the upper-lid paper 4 and cooled to form a sealing-material layer 6. Next, a sealing body 7, and a positive terminal plate 8 are installed, and the whole constitutes a dry cell. Consequently, the connection between the sealing-material layer 6 and the carbon rod 5 can be enhanced, and thereby the preservation time of the dry cell can be lengthened.
