Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a steel ingot of superior internal quality owing to one-directional freezing by pouring the 2nd molten metal at specific ratios of height-to-width when only the upper part of the 1st molten metal assumes a molten state.
CONSTITUTION: Molten steel 5 comprising the metal A is poured at a predetermined amount of ≤1.5 ratio H/D of height H to width D from a ladle 3 into a flat type mold 2 via a nozzle 4. The bottom part of the inside wall in the mold 2 is coated with heat insulating materials 22 of predetermined thickness over the entire inside wall surface by leaving an annular lip part 21 of predetermined height (h). Upon completion of pouring of the molten metal 5, the thick segregated molten steel of the top surface is removed and the top surface is covered with a suitable heat insulating material, so that the diffusion of the heat of the molten steel 5 is effected only through the molding board 1. When only the upper part of the molten steel 5 assumes a molten steel in this way, the molten steel comprising another steel B is poured at a predetermined amount of ≤1.5 ratio H/D of height H to width D, whereby the longitudinally short steel ingot comprising plural layer dissimilar metals is produced.
