Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent occurrence of splash sufficiently even if the plate is melted quickly to change the diameter of pour inlet diameter, by placing the plate formed by solidifying the molten steel coating agent used as raw material into plate form onto the steel pour inlet of the bed plate and pouring the molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: A splash preventive plate 3 formed by heating and pressurizing a molten steel coating agent, which usually occurs in powder form, to be capable of being compressed and solidified, is placed on a molten steel pour inlet 2 in the central part of a bed plate 1. The external form of the preventive plate 3 is not required to be limited, and the length of one side or the diameter, if the form is square or circular, should be preferably more than twice the diameter of the pour inlet. The thickness should be preferably about 20mm so that complete melting may be obtained at the completion of pouring. By thus constituting, the molten steel poured in from the pour inlet 2 is, in the initial period of pouring, poured into the mold 4 while directly abutting against the preventive plate 3, so that splash does not occur. Up to the splash initiating upper limit until the lower part of the mold is filled with molten steel, the preventive plate 3 is not melted completely, and is completely melted after completion of pouring, in the state of covering the molten steel surface.
