A positive-characteristic nonlinear resistance-element 5 is connected between the auxiliary electrode 4 and the main electrode 2 which stands opposite to the auxiliary electrode 4. The resistance between the auxiliary electrode 4 and the main electrode 2 is adjusted to be not less than 300KOMEGA during the lighting of the lamp. The location of the positive-characteristic nonlinear resistance-element 5 is near a stem 7 whose temperature does not exceed the maximum usable temperature of the element 5.
