CONSTITUTION:A pair of opposed main electrodes 3a and 3b and an auxiliary electrode 10, which has the same shape as the main electrode 3a and faces to the electrode 3a with a small space allowed between them, are installed in an emission tube 1, in which a discharge maintaining matter is charged. A heat responsive element 6 is provided in an outer tube 2 in which the emission tube 1 is installed, and an auxiliary circuit is formed between the main electrode 3a and the auxiliary electrode 10 facing to one another by means of the element 6. Discharge is initiated between the electrodes 3a and 3b by opening the above auxiliary circuit through the operation of the element 6.
