Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate occurrence of arc discharge in an outer tube, by connecting a series circuit, formed by a resistor and thermally operated switch, to between an auxiliary electrode and one of the main electrodes not adjacent to said auxiliary electrode. CONSTITUTION:In the vicinity of at least one of the main electrodes 2, 3 provided at both end parts of a luminous tube 1, an auxiliary electrode 4 is provided and a series circuit, formed by a ceramic resistor 5 with a cold resistance value of 40- 95OMEGA and a thermally operated switch 6 consisting of bimetal switch, is connected to between said auxiliary electrode 4 and the main electrode 2 not adjacent to the auxiliary electrode 4. In the luminous tube 1, mercury, halogenide and penning gas of neon mainly composed of neon-krypton or the like are sealed. Said luminous tube 1 is provided in an outer tube 7. The ceramic resistor 5 and the bimetal switch 6 are arranged in close vicinity to each other.
