Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a nonmagnetic amorphous alloy of high strength from a composition contg. Fe, Cr, B and C in a specified ratio.
CONSTITUTION: This high strength alloy which is preferentially amorphous and is nonmagnetic at ordinary temp. is represented by composition formula FexCryBzCw (where y≤0.22, z+w=0.13W0.23, x=1-y-z-w and x+2y≥0.95). A little amount of P element increases the corrosion resistance of the alloy, and Si facilitates the alloy to be made amorphous, so Si and P may be added by ≤about 10at%. This alloy is melted and fed onto a roll rotating at high speed, whereby the alloy is converted into a thin layer of about several tens μm thickness to lower the heat capacity of the alloy, and simultaneously it is deprived of heat by rapid cooling and solidification. Thus, broad long-sized amorphous samples of several tens μm thickness can be mass-produced inexpensively.
