Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an Al-Sn bearing alloy having a specified composition contg. Sn, Cr, etc., showing remarkably enhanced wear resistance and suitable for use as a material for a car internal combustion engine, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This Al-Sn bearing alloy with remarkably enhanced fatigue and wear resistances consists of, by wt., 3.5W35% Sn, 0.1W1% Cr, 1W10% in total of one or more among W, Ce, Nb, V, Ba, Ca, etc. and the balance Al. This alloy is generally used as a composite Al-Sn alloy obtd. by pressure-welding a backing steel sheet. When a bearing device for an internal combustion engine is manufactured using this alloy as a bearing material and nodular graphite cast iron as a shaft material, this alloy does not hinder the bearing performance unlike a conventional Al-Sn alloy and can enhance the wear resistance. By further adding ≤3% Cu and/or Mg to the alloy composition, the hardness of the alloy at high temp. can be lowered. The resulting alloy can be used as a similar bearing alloy.
