Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve heat resisting property, corrosion resistance and crack resisting property of an exhaust valve by underlaying super heat resisting Ni based high Cr alloy on a face portion of an exhaust valve body adapted to contact with a valve seat and by overlaying stellite of a particluar composition on the underlaid alloy.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust valve body (ase metal) 1 is constituted from heat resisting steel such as SUH31 and a recess is formed in a face portion 1a of the valve body 1 by machining, gouging or the like. Super heat resisting Ni based high Cr alloy 2 consisting of 0.05W0.2% of C, 8W24% of Cr, 0.1W3% of Al with the balance being Ni including inevitable impurities and having a hot strength higher than the base metal is underlaid in this recess, and stellite 3 having 0.90W2.50% of C and 25W32% of Cr contained therein is overlaid on the alloy 2. A surface is then machined or gouged to obtain a desired exhaust valve. In this case, the thickness T of material of the alloy layer 2 is preferably 1/2W2 times of the thickness (t) of material of the stellite layer 3.
