Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a composite Al-Sn alloy material for a bearing with enhanced fatigue and seizing resistances, etc. at high temp. by adding a specified amount each of Cr and W, Ce, Nb, V, Ba or Ca to an Al-Sn alloy and press- welding a backing steel strip to the resulting alloy.
CONSTITUTION: This alloy material for a bearing is obtd. by press-welding a backing steel strip to an alloy consisting of, by weight, 3.5W35% Sn, 0.1W1.0% Cr, 1W10% of ≥1 kind of element selected from W, Ce, Nb, V, Ba and Ca, and the balance Al or further contg. ≤9% of ≥1 kind of element selected from Pb, Bi, In and Tl and ≤3% Cu and Mg. By this alloy composition, during annealing after press-welding the backing steel strip, a precipitated intermetallic Al-Cr compound prevents the migration of the Al grain boundaries and hinders the growth of the Al grains. Accordingly, an effect of enhancing the fatigue strength and wear resistance at high temp. is produced. This bearing Al alloy is mainly used as a material for plain bearings of an internal combustion engine for a car.
