Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a bearing device for an internal combustion engine with enhanced fatigue and seizing resistances at high temp. by using nodular graphite cast iron as a shaft material and an Al-Sn alloy contg. specified elements as a bearing material and by press-selding a backing steel strip to the bearing material.
CONSTITUTION: Nodular graphite cast iron is used as the shaft material of a bearing device for an internal combustion engine. An alloy consisting of 3.5W 35% Sn, 0.1W1.0% Cr, 1W10% of ≥1 kind of element selected from W, Ce, Nb, V, Ba and Ca, and the balance essentially Al or further contg. ≤3.0% Cu and Mg is used as the bearing material, and a backing steel strip is press-welded to the bearing material. By forming the bearings with the resulting composite Al- Sn alloy material, the bonding strength of the alloy to the backing ateel strip can be increased at a raised annealing temp. Accordingly, the exfoliation and fatigue of the bearings are effectively prevented, and the performance and reliability of the bearing device can be enhanced.
