Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower fuel consumption and reduce the amount of noxious components contained in exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, by improving air supply and mixing of air and fuel and thereby accomplishing complete combustion of mixture through provision of an auxiliary chamber with a fuel injection nozzle and a compressed-air inlet valve and a combustion chamber with an ignition plug and a mixture inlet valve.
CONSTITUTION: When compressed air is introduced, under pressure, into auxiliary chamber 9 via inlet port 7 and valve 11, fuel is injected simultaneously from injection nozzle 5. Mixture thus introduced into auxiliary chamber 9 is atomized during the while when point B of rotor 2 passes through port 7 to port 8. When the point B passes through port 8, point A is passing through exhaust port. Therefore, pressure in combustion chamber 10 is lowered. Here, valve 4 is opened at the instant when point B has passed through port 8. Resultantly, mixture in auxiliary chamber 9 is introduced into combustion chamber 10 under pressure, so that combustion gas in chamber 10 is scavenged and mixture is filled therein. Subsequently, when mixture is ignited by ignition plug 6 after closing of valve 4, explosion gas is introduced, under pressure, into compression chamber defined between housing 1 and rotor 2, in which explosion gas is mixed effectively with air so that mixture can be combusted completely.
