Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a quenching layer of noncombustion gas from being formed on a wall surface of a combustion chamber and provide a substantial reduction of a volume of unburned HC by a method wherein a rich mixture is injected into a cylinder during a combustion stroke and its mixed in injection is shut off in response to a degree of load.
CONSTITUTION: Under a partial loading of the engine, only a mixture from the mixture injection valve 5 is supplied. Under a high loading of the engine, the fuel is supplied to the intake port 15 or intake manifold 15' from the fuel injection valve 18. Uniform mixture is guided into the combustion chamber 4 under an intake stroke so as to make the engine operated as a spark ignition type internal combustion engine. That is, this operation is performed under an electronic control. Unburned new gas fed from intake valve 7 in response to the output is a mixture or air, a decreased output under a full opening of the intake valve may be prevented and a discharged volume of HC under a running operation in the urban area may be reduced.
