Abstract

PURPOSE:To considerably enhance the luster retaining characteristics of an Al covered steel at high temp. and the heat resistance thereof by regulating the amount of dissolved N in steel used, the amount of total C in the steel and the Si content of covering Al to specified values in manufacture of the Al covered steel. CONSTITUTION:In manufacture of an Al covered steel, steel used contains total C and dissolved N which are within the range bounded by curved line 1 and straight lines 2, 3, 4 shown by equation 1 and drawn in the diagram plotting amount of total C in steel slong the y axis and amount of dissolved N in the steel along the x axis. Covering Al is manufactured by a hot dipping method using a molten Al-Si alloy, a method of press bonding an Al-Si alloy plate to form a clad, or a method of press bonding and sintering Al-Si alloy powder or mixed powder of Al powder and Si powder. By adjusting the Si content to 1.7- 15wt% in any case, an Al alloy covered steel retaining its luster even at high temp. and having superior heat resistance is obtd.
