Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform temperature controlling of pouring with good efficiency, reduce cooling time and enable the continuous casting of grids of high reliability for lead storage batteries by heating an engraved roll by means of a high-frequency induction heating unit. CONSTITUTION:An engraved roll 1 is heated uniformly in a short time by the heating coil 3 connected to a high-frequency induction heating unit in such a manner that its surface temperature becomes close to the m.p. of the lead or copper alloy which is being poured. The lead or lead alloy poured from a pouring part 9 into a pouring pool 10 flows into the continuous mold formed by contacting of the engraved roll 1 and a steel belt 4, is cooled to solidify by the water in a cooler 11 or the engraved roll 1 and is taken out as a produce. Here, the heating coil 3 is formed of copper-made pipes and is installed as close to the engraved roll 1 as possible. The grids for lead storage batteries are produced with good workability by this mechanism.
