Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a grid for a lead storage battery excellent in fluidity, sand burning, and mechanical properties, by pouring Pb-Sn-As alloy, contg. each element component in a prescribed proportion and molten in a prescribed temp. range, into a casting mold kept in a prescribed temp. range.
CONSTITUTION: A Pb-Sn-As alloy consisting of 0.3W3.0wt% Sn, 0.1W0.3wt% As, the remainder being Pb, is melted at 400W600°C, preferably 400W500°C temp. The molten metal is poured into a casting mold of ordinary shape maintained at 120W210°C, preferably 120W180°C temp. in order to perform casting. After the cast material is separated from the casting mold, the cast material is cooled with water or air, then it is heated at 120°C for 20hrs in order to improve the mechanical strength of the cast material. Desired grid for lead storage battery is manufactured by cooling in addition the cast material with air.
