Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease internal thermal strain and remove the deformation of outside dimensions by irradiating a high energy beam according to the amount of deformation thereby applying stress to the internal part in case when any deformation occurs in outside dimensions at the time of heat treating a steel material. CONSTITUTION:When the outside shape of a steel material such as tool steel is deformed by hardening and tempering treatment, the deformed shape dimensions are measured and checked from the change in the propagation speeds of ultrasonic waves of 50mHz. Based on the results of this measurement, a high energy beam 5 is irradiated to the deformed places 3, 4 of the steel material 1 by contrasting with the standard shape of the deformed steel material 1 to apply the stress of the irradiated energy to the thermally strained parts of the internal part, whereby the deformation is corrected to the original dimensions. A laser beam, plasma arc or electron beam is used for the high energy, and the beam 5 of 10<3>-10<5>watt/cm<2> energy density is scanned and irradiated for 10<-2>-1sec. from a generator 6.
