Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for various organic synthesis, in high purity and yield, by using a substituted isopropyl peroxide obtained from a substituted halogenated benzene and isopropylphenol, as a raw material, and subjecting the peroxide to acid decomposition.
CONSTITUTION: The titled compound of formula IV is obtained by the acid decomposition of a substituted isopropyl peroxide of formula I (Ar is formula II, formula III, etc.; X1 is H, halogen, trifluoromethyl, cyano, etc.; X2 is H, halogen, cyano, etc.) with, e.g. 10W80%, preferably 30W70% aqueous, alcoholic, or acetic acid solution of sulfuric acid, chloric acid, etc. below 70°C, preferably at 20W50°. The starting compound of formula I is produced, e.g. by reacting a substituted halogenated benzene with isopropylphenol in the pressence of a base, and oxidizing the substituted isopropylbenzene thus obtained in the presence of an alkali catalyst.
