Abstract

PURPOSE: To selectively apply electric fields to respective layers and enable arbitrary colors to be combined and colorful displays to be made by mixing dichromatic dyes of red, blue and yellow colors in nematic liquid crystals respectively and providing three layers of liquid crystal layers.
CONSTITUTION: Substrates 1W4 are formed with transparent glass and are adhered and fixed parallelly by spacers 5. The respective substrates 1W4 are formed with the lead takeout parts 6W9 projecting respectively in the fixed directions, by forming the takeout part 6 of the substrate 1 in the direction rotated by 90° from the takeout part 7 of the substrate 2, forming the takeout part 8 of the substrate 3 in the direction rotated by 90° from the takeout part of the substrate 3 and forming the rest in the similar manner so that the respective takeout parts do not overlap. Transparent display electrodes 10 are formed by an SnO2 film or the like on the under layer of the substrate 1 and an insulation film 12 is formed by covering the substrate 1 and the electrodes 10. Common transparent electrodes 13, 16, 17, 21, 22 and insulation films 14, 18, 19, 23, 24 are formed on respective both surfaces of the substrates 2, 3 and the top surface of the substrate 4. A blue color liquid crystal layer 15, a yellow color liquid crystal 20 and a red color liquid crystal 25 are constituted successively from above on the respective layers between the substrates 1W4.
