Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the panel easier to see by forming segment electrodes and a background electrode via insulation layer so as to cover the circumferences and circumferential edges of said electrode on one substrate and a counter electrode over the entire surface of the other substrate in the guest-host liquid crystal display panel.

CONSTITUTION: In the guest-host liquid crystal display panel in which, e.g., dichromatic dyes are contained, segment electrodes 8aW8g are formed to a substrate 6 and an electric insulation layer 11 is formed thereon. Further a background electrode 7 is so formed as to cover the outside circumferential parts 8g up to the inner side of the segment electrodes 8aW8g is formed. A counter electrode 10 is formed over the entire surface on the other substrate 9'. The substrates 6, 9' are sealed by a spacer 12 and liquid crystal 13 is put therein. If A-waveform voltage is applied to the electrode 10 and B-waveform to the electrode 7 and electrodes 8aW8g, then the entire part of the surface becomes transparent. Next, if, e.g., 8bW8c, 8eW8g are switched to the A waveform, then color number 5 is displayed. The electrodes 8aW 8g and electrode 7 are superposed and since there are no parts between these and the counter electrode 10 where no electric field is received, colored lines do not appear at the circumferential edges of the electrodes 8aW8g, thus the panel is made easier to see.
