Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve a device excellent in visuality and contrast, by making so constituted that a display section is thicker than a background section for the liquid crystal layer, in a positive type phase transfer guest/host color liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode 2a and vertical orientation processing film 3a are provided on an isolation substrate 1a removing a part corresponding to the display by about 1mu through etching, and they are placed opposingly to an isolation substante 1 where a transparent electrode 2 and a vertical orientation processing film 3 are provided via an epoxy adhesives 6 to form a cell. Next, a liquid crystal conmposition in the mixture of dichroism coloring matter (e.g., D5 by BHD Chemical Co., Ltd.), colesteric liquid crystal (e.g., cholesteryl 2-ethylexyl carbonate) and nematic liquid quarts (e.g., EN24 by Chisso Corp.) is sealed to the space of the said cell to form a liquid crystal display device (in the figure 4 shows nematic liquid crystal and 5 indicates dichroism coloring dye).
