Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect cooling pipes of various types made of copper or copper alloys from corrosion, etc., by supplying iron ions from a water soluble iron compound supply apparatus immediately after passing water and then from an electrolytic apparatus for supplying iron ions.
CONSTITUTION: In a means for supplying sea water to a condenser 5 of a vessel, part of the sea water that will be supplied to the condenser 5 via a sea water pipe 1, a pump 4 and a conduit 3 is drawn out from the conduit 3 by operating a booster pump 10 and opening a valve 11 immediately after the running of said means to be led through a by-pass pipe 9 to the water soluble iron compound supply apparatus 12 where a prescribed amount of iron salt is dissolved in said part of sea water, and the mixture having a higher concentration of iron ion is returned through a pipe 13 to an injector 2 where it is mixed with the sea water. After the iron salt has been dissolved, the valve 11 is closed and a valve 15 is opened to introduce part of sea water to an electrolysis cell 16, through which an electric current is passed, so that the electrolyzed solution having an iron ion concentration corresponding to a fraction of the first mentioned concentration is led to the injector 2 via a pipe 17 to be mixed with the sea water.
